Teams Go into Battle at the Padel Launch Party

We officially opened our new padel court on May 22nd with a Padel, Pickle, Prosecco and Pizza Party for over 70 players and guests. Lesley Cundy, the former chair of Berkshire Tennis and member of the LTA Board, cut the red ribbon for the new court, and then 54 players went into battle for a fun tennis, pickleball, and padel tournament.

Players were divided into nine mini-teams, representing either Club Chairman Michael Simpson (the Blue Team) or our Head Coach Ollie Brown (the Red Team). A total of 27 matches were played over three rounds, with the Blue Team prevailing 16 games to 11 (with no editorial bias….come on the Blue Team!).

In addition to the opening of the new padel court, the evening celebrated the opening of our 3rd and 4th artificial clay courts, which were installed in April, and a new “court number 9” that can be booked for pickleball or individual wall practice.

The new padel court can be booked by members from just £10 an hour (shared among 4 players) during off-peak times, and £20 an hour for peak times (peak is after 5pm on weekdays and before 5pm on weekends).

For members wanting to give padel a try, we are running Padel Club sessions with pickleball on Thursday mornings at 10.30am, and with tennis on Thursday evenings at 6.30pm. Bats and balls will be provided by the Club for these sessions.
