Following our award as Berkshire Tennis Club of the Year for 2025, we are honoured to have been selected as an LTA Club of the Year National Finalist for 2026. Both accolades represent fantastic achievements for the Club and reflect the significant progress made over the past four years, including the remarkable growth in membership and the strength of our community.
LTA Club of the Year National Finalist 2026
Four members of the committee represented the Club at the National LTA Awards Final, held at the National Tennis Centre on 16th April 2026. From a total of over 2,000 registered LTA tennis clubs, around 300 were nominated for Club of the Year, with only five clubs ultimately selected as National Finalists.

While we were not successful in taking the overall national title, simply reaching the final five clubs in the country is an exceptional achievement and a moment of real pride for everyone involved with the Club. It is a testament to the hard work of our volunteers, the dedication of our coaching team, and the continued support of our members.
We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the Club’s journey — this recognition truly belongs to the whole community.

Berkshire Club of the Year 2025
The Berkshire Tennis Club of the Year award was formally presented at the Berkshire Tennis AGM on Thursday 26 February at Cantley House Hotel, with the following citation from Kim Sedwick, Berkshire LTA Awards Lead:

“Located in the heart of the village, Wargrave Tennis Club is a model for grassroots sports, offering a welcoming environment for tennis, padel, and pickleball. By prioritising a community-driven spirit, including pay-and-play access for local residents, Wargrave has seen its membership grow by 60% over the last five years. Their forward-thinking approach and inclusive atmosphere make them a standout representative for our county as they move forward to the LTA National Awards.“
A Message from the Club Chair, Michael Simpson

“On behalf of our members, I am incredibly proud that the Club has received both of these awards. They represent fantastic recognition for four years of sustained effort by a team of dedicated volunteers at a truly community-based tennis club.
Since 2021, the Club has undergone significant transformation — including the installation of new LED floodlights, updates to our constitution to encourage greater member engagement, a complete refresh of our website, the appointment of a new coaching provider, a transition to artificial clay courts, and the introduction of both pickleball and padel. Together, these developments have broadened our appeal and helped create a more vibrant, inclusive club for all ages and abilities.
As a result, membership has grown by nearly 70% since 2021, including a 40% increase in 2025 alone, with more than 200 new members joining since January last year. These recognitions from the LTA belong to everyone who has contributed to that journey — particularly our members, who have embraced and supported the changes we have made. I would also like to thank our Parish Council for their continued encouragement and support throughout this period.
Looking ahead, we have exciting plans for 2026, including the development of a second padel court and extensions to our clubhouse, ensuring we can continue to meet the needs of our growing and increasingly diverse membership.”
