Club Championships – Finals Day Sunday 20th September

Finals Day (with good weather!) is all set for this coming Sunday. The Junior Tournament gets underway at 9am, alongside a fun Padel & Pickleball Competition for all adult members at 9.30am (see below). The five main tennis finals start from around 12 noon, with the Men’s and Ladies’ Singles kicking off an exciting afternoon of tennis, followed by the four Padel finals later in the afternoon (the detailed order of play will be announced later this week). We’d love to see as many members as possible come down to support our finalists and enjoy the day – with a BBQ, drinks and music adding to what should be a great Finals Day atmosphere.

Social Padel and Pickleball – Fun Finals Day Competition
All adult members are encouraged to join our fun Padel & Pickleball Competition – with space for 32 players.  No partner is needed – we’ll pair you up, with every pair playing both padel and pickleball before the top four progress to the semi-finals and final. Click here to register, and entry is FREE  (ignore the £999 booking fee — that’s just to deter non-members!). Afterwards, stay for a burger and a drink and watch the main tennis and padel finals.

Clubhouse Extension Plans – Thanks for the Feedback
Many thanks to the members who provided feedback on plans for the future development of the clubhouse. Everyone clearly likes the “Alternative Plans” to create a clubhouse that better meets the needs of our growing membership, while recognising that our budget ultimately has its limits. We are now working on the detailed costs with the aim of getting formal membership approval at our AGM, which will be run in October, and if approved, work could potentially start at the end of the year.

Padel Court Update – A More Comprehensive Fix
We now have a date from the supplier to fix the variable bounce on Padel Court 9. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get this done before Finals Day.  Work will likely start on 28 September, with the court out of action for 3 days. In the meantime, the court is playable, but watch out for the occasional odd bounce.

Guests of Members – Please Pay The Visitor Fees
Don’t forget that any guests must be accompanied by a member and they should pay the £5 all-day visitor fee via the QR code BEFORE play begins. Guests may visit up to four times per year before joining is required. We will conduct occasional checks, but we ultimately rely on members to ensure that their guests aren’t playing for free.

Welcome New Members – More Record Numbers
Finally, welcome to 47 new members who have joined us since 1st July.  Please read the Club Welcome Letter, complete the feedback survey and join our WhatsApp Community (password: wargrave). Our current total membership stands at 587, including 402 adults. This is another record, with membership up by 75% in the past 24 months. Don’t worry, we are tracking court booking data and we will review feedback in our forthcoming AGM survey to decide at what point we need to introduce a waiting list.
