Padel at Wargrave

Padel came to Wargrave in 2025, and our second court is now open. Padel has been an instant success at the club, growing membership by 80% and helping us to win Berkshire Tennis Club of the Year.

We offer members padel coaching, club competitions and fun weekly padel sessions. Members can also book padel courts from just £10 per hour (£2.50 per player). 

Padel Events and Coaching for Members

With support from over 95% of members, our second padel court was opened on 31st May. List below are some of the padel events we have in store at the Club.  Also, if you are organising your own social padel sessions with 5-12 people,  you might want to use this simple tool to organise pairings and record scores. Please note that the tool is still under development.

In addition to the events below, we are also running a Club Padel and Pickleball competition (for all levels) on Sunday 20th September.  The event is for members only.  Please click here for more details and to sign up.

Sunday Intermediate Club Padel

Sunday Club Padel Session for intermediate-level players from 6.00pm to 7.30pm. Intermediate-level players are not beginners, and they are likely to have entered the Club Padel Championships...or currently play tennis for one of our teams. Run by club volunteers from 30th August to 11th October. For a max of 12 players.

Thursday Advanced Club Padel

Thursday Club Padel Session are designed for our more advanced-level players from 7.00pm to 8.30pm. Advanced-level players are likely to have performed well in the Club Padel Championships...or currently play tennis for our 1st, 2nd or 3rd teams. Run by club volunteers from 10th Sep to 15th October. For a max of 12 players.

Padel Coaching and Padel for Beginners

The Club currently offers weekly padel coaching sessions and private coaching for junior and adult members only. Book Your Padel Courts at Wargrave

Only Wargrave Tennis Club members can book our padel courts, from just £10 an hour off-peak (£2.50 per player) and £20 at peak times. Members can bring guests, who pay a £5 guest fee in addition to their share of the court hire. Guests can play up to four times, after which we expect them to join the Club.

Padel Box Leagues for All Abilities

Over 100 players entered our 2026 Padel Championships, which run from June to September. We are also launching a new year-round padel box league, grouping players of similar ability into boxes of 8 and using the Americano scoring system. Matches played over an 8-week period, with relegation and promotions.

Volunteers for Club Sessions

Wargrave Tennis Club is a volunteer-run club, and that is one reason we can offer padel to our members at such low rates compared to commercial operators. If any member wants to run a regular daytime club session for other members, please message our Head Coach or our Padel Coordinator.

WTC Americano Box Leagues

Following our inaugural Padel Club Championships, we are now running the new Wargrave Padel Box Leagues!

Using the Club’s MatchSpace app, a new ongoing padel competition is designed for everyone – from our strongest players to those new to padel (and new to the Club). Players will be grouped into boxes of 8 of similar ability, with around 8 weeks to arrange matches within each box. Using an Americano format, you compete and score as an individual – so no partner is needed. More details and competition sign-up will be available next week. In the meantime, make sure you download MatchSpace and get ready to play.

 

Padel Box League Objectives:
  • to encourage and help members to play more padel matches;
  • help people meet and play with more members rather than always playing with the same group;
  • provide competitive matches against players of broadly similar standard;
  • make arranging games as easy as possible via the MatchSpace’s new “Chat to All” feature; and
  • use regular promotion and relegation to help everyone find their right playing level.
Padel Box League – Getting Started
  1. Download download MatchSpace (the Club code will be provided by the Membership Secretary).
  2. Look in the FEED menu and select the competition that you want to join….and wait to be allocated to the right box for you.
  3. If you are new to the Club, you will need to play with the Head Coach or the Padcel Leader to help establish the right box for you to join.
  4. You can also join the relevant WhatsApp group in the Wargrave WhatsApp community(use the link and password sent via email or contact the Club membership secretary to be sent it again).
  5. Book a padel court (we suggest a minimum of 90 mins) via our website – a reminder that you can cancel your booking 6 hours before play without charge.
  6. Play matches, have fun, meet new players, record results and watch the rankings evolve!
