The new Americano Padel Divisions is a year-round Club competition, with members arranging matches and recording results using the free MatchSpace app. The aim is simple – play more padel, meet new members and enjoy some friendly competition!
Americano Divisions Competition Overview
Our first round is now underway, with over 110 players across seven divisions of different abilities. Over 10 weeks, players arrange matches with different partners within their division, earning individual points for games and sets won. The current round finishes on 27th December 2026, and following promotions and relegations, a new 10-week competition will start again in January
How to Arrange Your Matches
Once you’ve downloaded MatchSpace, we recommend using its chat features (see example below) to arrange matches with other players in your division. There is no limit to the number of matches you can play in each competition round, but we recommend at least six matches (two 90-minute sessions), playing with and against different players in your division.
- Book a court for 90 minutes via Court Booker or the Club website (up to 21 days in advance) at a time that suits you.
- Open MatchSpace, find your division and use ‘Chat to All’ to invite others to play at your booked time.
- Play with the first three members who respond. If more are interested, consider booking a second court. You can also create a separate chat group for your match.
- If nobody is available, cancel your booking more than six hours beforehand for a full refund.
- Share the court costs using free bank payment links (e.g. Monzo, Revolut or NatWest), which also make refunds easy, or simply use cash. We don’t recommend Spond, as it requires another app, involves payment charges and complicates refunds.
- Play your matches and record the results in MatchSpace. Change partners after each set so everyone plays with everyone else once, then enter your scores to track your results.
How to Download and Set Up Matchspace
First, download MatchSpace from the App Store or Google Play. To access Wargrave Tennis Club’s competitions and features, you’ll need a Club access code, sent separately to members by email. If you already have the app, please update to the latest version to access new features.
Equally important, make sure notifications are enabled both within MatchSpace (Profile → Settings → Push Notifications) and in your phone’s notification settings. This ensures you’re alerted when other players send messages or invite you to play. Don’t miss out on a great game!
How the Competition Scoring Works
Each 90-minute booking should allow for a five-minute warm-up and three one-set matches, changing partners after each set so everyone partners with everyone else once. At the second deuce, play a golden point to decide the game. At 6–6, play a tie-break to seven points, with a deciding point at 6–6 in the tie-break.
Each player earns 1 point per game won, plus 5 bonus points for winning the set. For example, a 6–4 win earns each winner 11 points and each loser 4 points. Every game counts, and playing more matches gives you more opportunities to earn points. The leaderboard is currently ranked by total points scored, but we also plan to introduce average points per match, allowing members to compare their performance irrespective of the number of matches played.
How to Record and Track Your Results
After playing your matches (three matches in a 90-minute session), open MatchSpace, select Padel Americano Divisions, then choose Competition Menu → Add Score and follow the steps. You can view your division leaderboard to track your results, or visit Wargrave Club Competitions to follow results in other divisions.
How to Track Your Stats
In addition to tracking your division match results (and your standing in your division), you can also now compare your overall Matchspace player rating. Under Stats, you’ll find your Club rating, based on all match results recorded in MatchSpace, including Americano competition matches. Everyone starts with 1,500 points, with ratings adjusted after each match using an algorithm that considers your opponents’ playing ability. Beating stronger players earns you more rating points than beating weaker players. More details in the app.
How the Initial Divisions Were Decided
For our first competition, players were allocated to seven divisions, with 12 in Division 1 and 16–18 in each of the other divisions. Our Head Coach made the final allocations based on previous Club Championship and ladder results, performance at Club sessions, observed playing ability, tennis experience and players’ own MatchSpace assessments. While these initial rankings are not an exact science, promotion and relegation after each round will help everyone find their appropriate playing level.
How Promotion and Relegation Will Work
At the end of each competition round (normally 10 weeks), four players will be relegated from Division 1 and four promoted from Division 2. In other divisions, around four to six players will move up or down, taking into account total points scored, average points per match (once available), participation and division sizes. There is no relegation from the bottom division. This will help everyone find their appropriate playing level over time, with coaching available for those keen to improve.
How Do I Enter If I Am New
Don’t worry if you missed the first round! Each competition runs for around 10 weeks, with new rounds starting throughout the year. New players are welcome to join at the start of each new competition and will be allocated to a suitable division based on their playing ability. We will announce the dates and entry arrangements for each new round in advance, along with updated divisions reflecting promotion and relegation.
