Tennis and Padel Club Finals Day 2026

Our biggest-ever Summer Club Championships culminated in a fantastic Finals Day on Sunday 20th September, with over 200 competitors, members and guests enjoying glorious autumn sunshine and some great matches in the finals of 13 tennis, padel and pickleball competitions. It was also a fitting celebration of the Club’s continued growth, with membership now approaching 600 – up 77% over the past two years – and 98% of members saying they enjoy being part of the Club.

The Winners and Runners Up

On court, James Wright was crowned our new Men’s Singles Champion and completed a superb treble by also winning the Men’s and Mixed Doubles, while Carol Charlett became our Ladies’ Singles Champion. Jenny Harding also had an outstanding day, winning three titles, while a special mention must go to Jeremy Morgan, who somehow managed to keep going throughout the day to compete in five finals – three tennis and two padel! The Junior finals were played in the morning, with Finley Hodgkins and Lucy Gupta winning the boys’ and girls’ titles.

Action from the Tennis Finals

Tennis continues to thrive, with this year’s finals played on our four artificial clay courts, all installed over the past two years. The main singles finals took centre stage on our show court in front of the clubhouse, creating a great setting for spectators – and, with our planned clubhouse extension, we hope the viewing area will be even bigger and better for Finals Day 2027.

Action from the Padel Finals

Our five Padel Finals, played across our two new padel courts, highlighted how successful padel has become for the Club. It has brought a new dimension to club life, helping us attract new and younger members while giving existing members another great way to play and compete. And with members able to hire a court from just £10 an hour, padel remains both accessible and great value.

Action from the Junior Finals

Many thanks to Katie Hodgkins, our Junior Coordinator, for organising a fun Fast Fours competition for our leading junior players, which kicked off Finals Day with some great action. Junior tennis continues to thrive, with Head Coach Ollie Brown and his team doing a fantastic job of developing young players and encouraging them into competitive tennis.

Action from the Fun Padel & Pickleball Competition

Our new Fun Padel & Pickleball Competition was also a great success, with 24 players battling through four games of each sport over two hours before the top four pairs progressed to padel semi-finals and a pickleball final. The competition is also the new home of the Tomlinson Trophy, originally presented by a former Club President to encourage fun and competitive play. Sarah Thompson and Alex Bishop became its first Padel & Pickleball champions, with Jim Rankin and Nathan Fovargue runners-up.

Thanks to the Club Volunteers and Spectators

Finally, a huge thank you to the Club Volunteers and to all the spectators for making the day so memorable. A special shout-out for Rich and Finley Hodgkins and their team for keeping everyone fed from the BBQ, to tournament organisers Katie Hodgkins (Juniors), Tom Lewis (Tennis) and Mark Nockles (Padel), and to all the other volunteers who helped prepare for and run the day.
